Playstation 3 Customer Reviews
Update 01/05/2009: I recently got a rock band, and once it was installed, a patch(Something like version 1.09) loaded and now the guitar hero Les Paul's work with that game, along with this drumkit working with both RB1 and RB2! With the price continues to fall for this game, there is no excuse to add it to your library.
Since all the songs in Rock Revolution are covers I never ever bought though was more expensive. Pleasant surprise, though, the covers are generally very good quality, are not much different from the sound of live recordings by the artist is the original. Congratulations on the cover band (s). If you're picky about the songs that sound exactly like the album or radio version, the cover probably annoying.
You can play drums, guitar or bass, there are rumors of RockRevolution. I played with a Rock Band and Rock Band Guitar Drums, Guitar Hero World Tour also tried the battery as described below. The guitar for Rock Band has worked well with this game.
Vertical scrolling note is not great, but I am used to. The circular shape of the notes was ok and they were brilliant, better than the "Chinese hat" or whatever those notes are Guitar Hero, but the bright light rectangles in Rock Band are the best in my opinion.
As for the drums, footballpedal notation as "just another act" is striking, I got used to it, but never liked it. I was using Rock Band's drums and they work fine for most, but the Guitar Hero World Tour drums were not great with this game, mapping known it was too far (especially on the plates), much like using the guitar drums in Rock Band Hero.
On the guitar, it seemed that there were more strings and I felt like I was actually playing electric guitar over Rock Band. There is also an occasional notation in certain songs when you only had to cry on a note, you only need to strum a certain speed or above and hold the note. It 'was a nice touch and seemed a bit' realistic.
As for the true gameplay, you're just playing set of songs, there is no character creation or the tour. Reproduction of the basic tracks were good, but I found most of the other things, how to avoid the "poison" observes or play without the notes were much more visiblefrustrating than fun. So I found myself staying in game mode faster career.
I played this game a couple of times but in the end, as after playing Guitar Hero World Tour, returned to Rock Band 2. But if you do not pay a lot for this, it's worth it for an alternative take on a music game and to play songs like the heart of "Magic Man."
This apparently flopped badly. Purchased for less than $ 10 in local GameStop.
Gameplay is not bad and the song selection is great. Most are covers, but done very well. Good note layout and a good sound.
If "Dr. Feelgood" is a cover is the best cover I've ever heard. Convinced that it is the original.
In any case, if the tracklist interest you, give it a try.
OK, I do not think this game deserves to spend even twenty, but with its wide availability of current business for less than ten dollars from a number of vendors Marketplace is definitely worth a look. There are some nice variations (vertical scrolling, challenges, study) for RB and GH veterans, and although all the songs are covers, after two hours of play I found three songs not found anywhere else, that alone can justify the price of Input:
Spirit Of Radio
White Room
I expect to find some other exclusively for this game too. A couple more notes: calibrate the instruments! My system was very late with this game while I play GH and RB with zero lag. Also, I do not think you can do the tour with the low mode only, which is a bit 'of a bummer for us fans of the bass. Oh yes, the fidelity is pretty awful. But overall still a good value or less than ten dollars. The graphics are good, though easier than GH or RB.
When I saw the track list for this game, I thought, what the heck? How could it be as bad as all the players question? So I bought it, since it was only twenty dollars. I wish I had my back twenty dollars.
The game itself is not so bad, but it is not even in the same zip code, much higher than Rock Band and Guitar Hero titles. Once accustomed to seeing in 3-D scrolling notes of RB and GH, the vertical scroll in Rock Revolution is a major downgrade. It 'alsomuch more difficult to get an idea of exactly when the notes should be played, I got used to the time GH almost immediately, but this game was much more uncomfortable (I swear I was hitting the notes in rhythm, but they lack required).
Then there's calibration. When I played my first song, I noticed that there was at least a half-second delay, and I had to strum the notes early or I'd miss. After trying three times to calibrate the delay (a process that was itselfdifficult), it was only slightly better, and there's nothing as annoying as freaking play a game like this you know who shot and missing notes.
Another feature that seemed like a good idea, but ended up being nothing more than irritating was the "poison notes" scattered throughout each song. These are notes that are thrown at you along with the "real" notes, but they are empty, instead of color. If you hit these "poison notes", you lose your score multiplier, and alsoworse, if you hit too many of them, the song immediately ends (like getting booed off stage missing too many notes). This sounds like a new idea, but I found it very frustrating. I mean, the whole point of these games is to hit every note you see, imagine a game of Space Invaders, but of being penalized for shooting certain aliens. Not as cool in practice as in theory, in my opinion.
The final strike against the game was the fact that the track list includes awesomealmost no original artist. While the cover band to do a job more than capable of performing the songs, just not the same, very few people can accurately simulate the vocal stylings of legends like Geddy Lee and Bruce Dickinson, and is largely their voices make the songs rock as hard as they do. Kudos to the other games to realize this and now that almost all the original artists on their new title.
Overall, a very disappointing 2 / 5 stars from me. I just hope andI pray that some of these songs will one day find their way into the Guitar Hero set list. That would be worth a helluva lot more than twenty dollars.
