Now, with the release of Mafia II, the bar has been raised a notch higher, but not without substantial flaws. First, let's start with the bad. Many were initially excited to note that Daniel Vavra, who wrote the original game, he returned to write the sequel. Unfortunately, the new player character of Vito Scaletta is nowhere nearTommy Angelo complex or as nice as the first title. Tommy was a character in conflict, which only fell into a gangster lifestyle because he found it was good and beat driving a taxi for a living.
In Mafia II, are something of a loser who seems blissfully unaware throughout the game that he's not a very good gangster. Vito is, in fact, really only good at killing people. But also in the crowd who can only get so far. I liked the character ofmatter-of-fact "I do not care what I do as long as I make money" personality, but the game does not run the type cast as Tony Soprano, is more than one type of Matt Bevilacqua (wanna- be gangsters who tried to kill Christopher).
So, unfortunately, is climbing the charts and eventually buy one of those sweet buildings in the hills. Instead, your career flatlines and eventually collapses. Which is realistic, I think, but not the most fun character to play. L 'finish is very sharp, too. For all developers to focus instead on the plot, the final product feels a bit 'rushed.
Not only that, the story is not so original, it is, is layered with tropes and clichés, as if the entire script was put together by a half-dozen mafia movies. Yet, the game sells the story well, and the narrative voice is in top gear. The scenes are rendered in a masterly way that, after a while ', you care about the imperfections ofhistory and discover more about what will happen next to Vito. There is also a killer mission towards the end of the game that fans will absolutely love the original.
Most of the criticisms you might have already read about Mafia II of professional reviews is quite true, even if they are too hard on the game. Many have derided the lack of side quests and mini-games, claiming the world sandbox is not particularly worth exploring, because there is not much to do anyway. It 's truethat the game could have benefited from something like that. Frankly, I found most of the missions of GTA to be unnecessary work to do. Yet, I admit I would take nothing more than pointless busy work any day. And there is no doubt that it would be very nice to play a game of pool in Freddy's between missions.
The lack of extra material is softened by the free "Betrayal Jimmy" DLC for PS3 owners. It 's just a series of simple arcade-style missions, but this is the same typeof missions that we see from other sandbox games like GTA or RDR. Even without the DLC, the much-complained-linearity of the game does not worry me, because I respect a game entirely devoted to weave a compelling narrative.
In that sense, I might add that there is a really nice little 'to do in Empire Bay. You can eat at the diner (which also recharge your health), have a drink at the bar, fill up your car at the gas station, buy new clothes, buy new weaponsor ammunition, and - best of all - Pimp out your ride. The player can change the color, add new wheels and tires, and improve the engine to improve performance. Because of the way scripts are some missions, you can leave your precious creation from time to time. Not to worry, as long as you put in the garage at least once, will return to your garage for the next mission. You can also steal shops for a bit 'extra money. You'll need to do it often, because of the way in which the gameis a script that you're constantly having your fortune removed.
One thing that all critics agree is that the game world is absolutely beautiful. No effort was spared to create a living, breathing metropolis of the forties and fifties. skyscrapers, imposing municipal buildings, classic diners fifties, a period of posters, themed houses nestled in the mountains - the attention to detail is impressive. There's a sequence where you have been to the toppushed down a hill with huge skyscrapers in the background and a light snowfall all around - quite simply, looks amazing. Gallons of digital ink has been paid recently to the fact that the PS3 version is technically the "bottom" as far as graphics are concerned, but you'd never know is the game.
Moreover, everyone agrees that music licensing tracks (of which there are over 120) are absolutely killer. The game features songs ranging from Bing Crosby to Chuck BerryIt also includes cuts from the original game as well. The songs are spread across three radio stations, occasionally interspersed with the occasional news and advertising. Many times I stopped my car just before a checkpoint mission as a song that I like to have ended (two of my favorites are the cleverly written "held for questioning" by Rusty Draper, and "You Can Have Her" by Roy Hamilton ).
The original score is useful, even if the disc included in the soundtrackCollector's Edition is a bit 'disappointing. There are nearly fifty songs, but all the clues are only 1-2 minutes in length, so none of them have any room to grow. An example best video game soundtrack would be the "Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty" disc, which includes the epic title track stretches over seven minutes, along with other tracks more expansive.
By the way, Collector's Edition is still worth the extra expense, including the art book to be the realexceptional collection for fans. Interestingly, there are some screenshots of a drawing in the book that I loved scrapping the main menu to ten times higher than the final version. I always love a Steelbook case, and I wish you all the Blu-Ray has come to them. "Made Man" pack is a nice bonus as well, giving Vito a tuxedo, a suit full of fancy sunglasses, sweet, two-seater sports car. To complete the set is a very nice fold-out map of the world game. A more casual fans will be more than happy with thestandard version, however, since it includes a map always useful.
Back to the game, while the basic gameplay is solid and a great deal of fun, there are other minor complaints: the game is a bit 'too short (most be completed in just 10-12 hours), the system checkpoints may be occasionally frustrating, as most do not die in every single high speed accident (true to life, but not funny), and most think the police are just too easy to escape from. Especially with childreninfringements, the simplest method is to simply stop until the official closing of his car, and then plan it. Have you ever return to his car in time to pursue.
Yet there is much more the developers nailed. There is a selection screen of the mission for missions completed, the combat pistol is well made, and while the combat is very simple, it is still a bomb. In addition, there are in-game collectibles, including over 150 posters and 50 wanted Playboy Centerfolds. Strangelyenough, some critics also whined about that. Destructoid reviewer said he felt no incentive to collect centerfolds because it was an "adult" and had "seen a naked woman before." Yeah, okay, you do not like that kind of plan your bachelor party?
There are other small bonuses that unlock as you play the game. For example, the game includes "Carcyclopedia" as the original did and there are more works of art production that unlocks when you complete the game. There is alsostatus screens for viewing, wanted posters and Playboy centerfolds that have collected so far. Most welcome is a GTA-esque statistical screen, which typically has the only ticket you expect from this sort of thing (your playtime, how many miles you drove, how many bullets were shot, etc.).
Despite its flaws, I offer a sincere recommendation to check out Mafia II. Of course, the best advice is to simply try the free demo for you. What will sell more copies of this game than anyreview. You can see for yourself how the game world is rich, try the gun battle on at least four different weapons, and turn around a section of the city. You can also try your hand combat with the choice of a fight with a random stranger.
UPDATE 8 / 30 - Apparently, so far, Mafia II is not meeting the expectations of sales in the United States. It seems that, judging from the myriad of reviews that I read last week, the main flaw that is to scare the players is that, for a sandbox style game, does not allow much freedom for all. You can not save whenever you want, you can not continue playing after the final mission, and the only way you can do what you want is to simply ignore the current target. There's really no motivation to earn money, because the plot is constantly taking away from you, and you can not save everything they earn anyway.
I realize that the players wanted to focus on their history, but it seems just a little 'counterproductive to limitthe functionality of a game world that so obviously constructed with such care and attention to detail. The developers went to great pains to distance himself from the franchise over-the-top GTA, and I think it's a good thing, but I went a bit 'too far. Especially because so much of these complaints could be resolved with a simple function of savings.
This is where the "betrayal of Jimmy" DLC shines, because it provides the kind of GTA-style atmosphere in which many Mafia IIplayers desire. Once you complete the mission brief opening, which serves as a small tutorial for the action arcade-style game, it was given free rein to Empire Bay to choose what missions you want. Of course, you can also simply choose to buy new clothes or upgrade your car, rob a gun shop, eat at the diner, etc. Best all, you can save your game anytime you want at home.
UPDATE # 2 9 / 5 - It should be noted that Mafia II is slightly buggy. In twenty hours of play I hadtwo game-killing crashes. That is not so bad, but what is really frustrating is the occasional corrupt save game. In the midst of playing the "betrayal of Jimmy" add-on, my saved game has become corrupted and do not load. I admit I usually replay a plot, however, twice, but generally I like to actually finish first!
I expected this game to be open world, much like Grand Theft Auto, but I was surprised and a little 'disappointed when I discovered it was 100% in a linear city decently sized. The story is so amazing! I love to dive deeper into the territory of the Mafia. I hope there is more than just a credit after the end of the story.
The game is fun and fairly intuitive. The graphics are amazing and the loading time of the game is really fast. Unless you die a lot, that does not occurmany loading screens.
This game rocks, everything in it very cool. Story, control etc.
The only thing that was cool about it that walks between missions. you have to drive SaFly without accelerating so the police do not have to stop and fine you. There is also a speed controller so you do not have to worry about what you are going. But as I said before you have to travel long distances most of the time.
Mafia 2 is a good game but I love better than a mafia. But the game is great and worth doing is different. The graphics are so real and better than many other games at this point in time. The game is done really well and the guide is good as well. Buy the game and make your own mind about it to anyone else Listern not just play and see if it's something you like.
Regards, short but sweet ... love the game, timing, music, everything ... older players, who love the GTA series ... This rotation has a place in my game ...
